That car has an interesting engine. It is an 2.19 liter pushrod 4 c ylinder that was only ever used in the Temp/Topaz. There aren’t many pushrod fours out there.

Guess what popular car’s engine the Tempo 4 cyl was based on.........

It's nice and all, but it's no Topaz.

I forgot if I commented earlier, but this is likely a 1984 model (likely a GL) with those wheels, the bumper overriders, and thin side trim.

Winner winner chicken dinner!

The Tempo motor is 2/3 of a ‘64 Mustang 200 6 cyl. mounted transversely .

That must have been an interesting project resurrecting the 200 6 and building 2/3 of it on the line.....

Per Wiki

In anticipation of another engine shortage, Ford’s Lima, Ohio, engine plant, which was already producing the 2.3 L OHC engine, decided they could modify the Falcon inline six block casting molds to remove cylinders 4 and 5 to create a four-cylinder engine. A cast iron high-swirl cylinder head was developed, and the motor was designated the 2.3 L HSC to help differentiate it from the same displacement 2.3 L OHC design. This motor shared many common parts with the 200, and it is common for persons rebuilding their 200 engines to use the 2.3 L HSC pistons as a cheap replacement.

We had a Tempo in the family for some time and I learned a lot of the minutiae about those cars, so I remembered that tidbit.

Ours was one of the good ones - had 190K on it when it was finally let go, original engine and transmission never touched.  A car that people love to hate, but I have some good memories.

I never knew that... That’s an interesting and obscure fact!
